While #h overall performance demonstrates solid growth, achievement levels will only improve with concerted effort and a willingness to try new approaches to learning. #N needs to reflect on #h study habits both in and outside of class, and commit to making small changes each day to hopefully establish new habits and patterns of interacting with course content. 4=#N has made very good progress this year: through attention to feedback and targeted revision #e has made real progress. With continued grit and determination, #N's competence and confidence with approaches to learning in Individuals and Societies courses will continue to develop. COMMENTS: Synthesis 1=#N's work tends toward the descriptive, however, as confidence with the core content builds, #N should be able to develop the skills necessary to examine economic concepts/theories utilizing an evaluative approach. 2=#N's work demonstrates sophistication: evidence and examples are utilized effectively within a solid analytical and evaluative framework. #N's work clearly indicates #h ability to synthesize information utlilizing effective economic analysis. 3=#N's work is evolving to include some awareness of the need for evaluation as a framing device when it comes to lengthier responses. Adopting an evaluative stance will allow #N to better synthesize content knowledge and application to produce convincing arguments. 4=Like most students, #N is finding synthesis and evaluation somewhat challenging, however, this is normal at this stage in the study of economics and #h performance will improve as the course progresses. 5=#N has shown an aptitude for synthesis and evaluation as evidenced on the #econassessments. Most students find this a difficult skill to master, so #N's achievement in this area is commendable. 6=#N's work demonstrates sophistication: evidence and examples are utilized effectively within a solid analytical and evaluative framework. #N's work clearly indicates #h ability to synthesize information utlilizing effective economic analysis. Diagrams are an essential analytical tool in the course, and #N is able to construct, interpret and manipulate economic models and diagrams with skill. COMMENTS: Y2 Engagement 1=As always, #N continues to be highly-engaged in class, and often poses questions which demonstrate insight into the target content; #e is a pleasure to have in class. 2=#N is sometimes distracted and disengaged in class. As such #e loses the opportunity to consolidate #h learning in the collaborative classroom environment. 3=#N is often distracted and disengaged in class. As such #e loses the opportunity to consolidate #h learning in the collaborative classroom environment. 4=#N needs to engage more actively in class: as an active listener, an active inquirer and an active participant in small group application exercises. Economic understanding cannot be developed passively; #N needs to take ownership of #h learning and class engagement is an essential, first step. COMMENTS: Y2 ExtResp 1=One area that remains a challenge for #N are extended response questions. On this paper students need to construct well-organized responses to questions relating to micro and macro economics, demonstrating knowledge and understanding through content knowledge and the ability to utilize real world examples to support their arguments. 2=#N needs to work on essay structure to ensure that #h ideas are presented clearly, and also to pay close attention to command terms so that #e understands the demands of the question.
