The work in this unit also offered * several opportunities to relate ~ understanding of science to ~ everyday experiences of light and darkness and health and safety issues. " Seeing Section 2: Light and seeing ^ was able to describe how ^ finds something when it is dark. ^ recognises that ^ is not able to use ~ sense of sight in the dark. ^ has stated that ~ can see things when there is some light. " Sources Section 3: Sources of light ^ was able to identify a number of light sources of different kinds. ^ has made comparisons between light sources in terms of their brightness or colour. " Night Section 4: Using lights at night ^ was able to recognise that lights e.g. bonfires, fireworks, candles, show up best when it is dark and that ~ can see these because they are light sources. " The Sun Section 6: The Sun ^ has identified changes that occur when the Sun goes behind a cloud and ^ recognised that these were different from changes at nightfall. ^ can explain that the Sun is a source of light even when it is behind a cloud. # has explained why it is dangerous to look directly at the Sun e.g. you mustn't look at the Sun because it's very bright and burns your eyes. " Shiny objects Section 7: Shiny objects and light sources ^ was able to recognise that a shiny object needs a light source if it is to shine. # is able to explain that a shiny object doesn't shine in a dark room. ^ could say whether ^ expected the reflective strips to shine near a light source.
