The work in this unit also offered opportunities for * to relate ~ understanding of sound and hearing to everyday experiences. " Sounds Section 2: Listening to sounds & Section 3: Making different sounds. ^ was able to identify a range of familiar sounds e.g. that's water trickling, that's us singing in assembly. ^ is able to listen carefully to identify different speakers. ^ is able to identify different ways in which simple musical instruments can make sounds. ^ has grouped instruments and objects and compared how many there are in each group. " Description Section 4: Describing sounds ^ was able to describe the sounds ~ had heard using a range of appropriate vocabulary. ^ has recognised that some sounds give us pleasure and others do not. " Body Section 5: Body sounds ^ has identified how ~ can make sounds. ^ has recognised that when ^ makes a sound some parts of ~ body moved. " Hearing Section 6: How we hear ^ is able to state that ^ hears sounds through ~ ears. ^ has recognised that ~ ears also gave * information about where the sounds were coming from e.g. I pointed to where the buzzer was when I had my eyes shut, I didn't need to see. ^ has suggested how to find out about hearing e.g. you could cover one ear and both ears and listen to the sound . " Safety Section 7: Hearing and safety # recognises that ^ uses ~ hearing to sense danger as well as to communicate and to hear pleasant sounds. " Loud sounds Section 8: Loud sounds ^ has identified some very loud sounds. ^ was able to recognise these sounds were louder when ^ was nearer to the source. ^ recognises that loud sounds can be harmful. " Testing sound Section 9: Testing sound and distance ^ is able to state that when ^ is far away ^ can't hear people talking. ^ has measured the distance from ~ position to a sound source using a non-standard measure and recorded ~ measurement. ^ has measured the distance from ~ position to a sound source using a metre stick and recorded ~ measurement. ^ has measured the distance from ~ position to a sound source using a tape measure and recorded ~ measurement. " Presentation Section 10: Presenting the results ^ was able to contribute to a chart e.g. a block graph when ^ was presenting ~ results. # was able to compare different measurements e.g. I stopped nearer to the sound than John stopped. ^ has compared how far ^ was from the two sources when ^ stopped hearing them e.g. I went five metres with the loud source and two metres with the soft source. # has stated that ^ could hear the louder sound further away than the softer sound.
